my car doesn't maintain idle speed

I have a Nissan Micra 1988 with 45,000 miles on the clock.

She's been serviced regularly and has recently had a new HD/dizzy cap.

Essentially when this problem started the car jolted like she wasn't getting into gear correctly but now she'll start fine and run fine some days, and then others (this morning for instance) she won't start at all. When she does decide to start (this afternoon) she doesn't maintain idle speed - you can essentially hear it... but she's fine when being driven now.

She's had a good measure of redX put down her and now i'm unsure of what to try.

Also: when she is running you get a shock if you place your finger on the lead running from the centre of the dizzy cap to erm i'm not sure what it is... lol.

Any ideas? :S

It is normal that you get shocked if you touch a lead :D:D there are many thousand volts running through you should never touch it :D

just check the vacuumpipes at the carb, the car is old and they tend to get cracks and then they get fresh air and the carb is starting to run lean.
you can check them by spraying brake or carb cleaner on them. If the engine revs up, you found your leak
