Micra 1.5DCI gearbox noise

Hi All,

hope you can assist me, I do not have any mechanical knowledge at all, I have a Nissan Micra 2011 1.5DCI and there is a whining noise coming from the front left of the car, i assumed that it was the breaks so I changed it, the clutch was replaced about 6 months ago, the whining noise got worse yesterday while driving home from work. I tried to put it in reverse and after a few meters ti sounded like the gear wasn't engaging and made a grinding noise, I now assume that this is the gearbox but very uncertain what it could be. I took it to a mechanic and he said that it is the bearings and engine mounting as well as the gearbox however the gearbox will need to be stripped in order to check what the problem is, can anybody please assist me in this regard.

Sounds to me like that when the clutch was changed the gearbox wasn't refilled with oil............

You did not specify auto/manual, miles, age or how long you have owned the thing or had issues? The mechanic would most likely considered and checked gear oil level?

It is a manual, 2011, i owned for 3years, 160000 km

Hi all,

Just an update, I took the car for to a gearbox specialist it seems like the previous owner had work done on the gearbox and parts were not replaced correctly, the actual 5th gear and reverse was damaged.
