Major electrical failure

Was driving earlier in some serious rain when I lost almost all power, everything but the engine cut out and the engine was running badly, scared the crap outta me. Anyway after 10 mins of driving everything worked again. I was told the wet belt could have stopped turning the alternator.
Is this possible and what else could have caused this?

let everything dry out and squirt wd40 on all electrical connections. As for the belt, make sure theres no crap like oil or grease on the belt or the pulleys.

Probably just water on the leads or dizzy. Make sure the seal on the dizzy cap is good too

The reason I think the dizzy etc was ok is the engine was running pretty well, I lost all interior electrics and all lights. Still everything seems fine now, my next job is a splash guard on the bottom of the engine.

There should be two on there as standard, but they are sometimes taken off and not put back by mechanics, or the bolts just rust and they fall off!

I want to build a big one to cover everything, more of a rock guard than anythin.
