1,1/2mm head skim (if it,s low comp), 5hp, about £40.
cam reprofile, 5 - 10hp, £100
replace the dire exhaust manifold, 5hp, custom price + insurance loading

got roughly 100 maybe 150
what sort of carb would be best and can you get diffrent carbs to fit o.e inlet manifold

also any details on any upgrades e.g what it involves and where to get the parts from cheers

any idea of the sort of gain i would get and also would the timing, ignition timing and anything else need adjusting

If your a bit handy with your tools then I'd say the most performance you'll get is to buy and fit an MA12 engine. Could pick one up within your budget as long as you could do the work yourself?

it would maybee need rejeted ( the carb that is ) theres a blog somewhere on this forum about the ich 34 carb , yea there will be a gain also alot better fuel consumption on the motorway, I am currently doing my engine up and have went for the ich 34 but also alot of other engine upgrades wich overall will Use the ich to its full potential.

im a trainee mechanic so i could do a engine but as im working a lot and the cars my only transport i cant really do an engine swap

I'm not amazingly familiar with the MA series engine (never owned a K10) but surely you could do an engine transplant in a day with the help of someone else? Or as the days are short now easily do it over a weekend.

Me, Ed and a few others managed to change an engine, gearbox, wiring loom, exhaust, metering unit, on an Escort Cabriolet to convert it to a Turbo in 1 day. Although that was a long tiring day. lol.

i think the ma10 and ma12 are straght swap but would rather just modify current engine as finding a decent ma12 and then picking it up and then finding time to fit is going to be hard

Yes I know they are a straight swap. If you can get one locally I reckon thats the best performance you can get for your wedge $$$. Also allows room for more performance upgrades. But thats my preference.

Do whats good for you man. Set of bike carbs sound quite awesome!!!

would a new manifolds, skimmed head and 34ich be any good? or is this going to be mega £££s

Yea that would be a good start up, and no wouldnt cost mega bucks my ich, and inlett came too £230 ish
also the ma10, and ma12 are not much of a difference i found my ma10 4 speed is alot faster than my current ma12!!

i got a custom one from ebay, a custom one is your best bet, maybee ask around on the forums someone might have one or get a manifold from another car and have a ma10 flange welded onto it too make it fit your car.

4 hour engine swap, disconnect/ unbolt everything, engine out, new one in, reconnect, the MA12 is plug n play so a small job really.

ma12 with a skimmed head should give you best performance for sub £150. Fuel consumption will still be good too. If you tune the ma10 to 60bhp, you will likely get worse fuel economy than if you were using a ma12.

were are you getting all these done because they are really cheap lol

when people say the ma12 is a straight swap into a k10 that had a ma10 originally. Is it a absolute complete straight forward swap, and you dont have to change a single thing. You just take out the old engine and drop the 1.2 straight in?

And can you still use the original 4sp or 5sp you had before you put the 1.2 engine in

Cheers in advance

yes, nut for nut, bolt for bot, pipe for pipe etc, etc, everything is interchangable, you can use which ever gearbox you want 4 sp, 5sp long 5 sp short.
