Lowering

I am going to attempt to lower my car this weekend with 35mm lowering springs on standard shocks.

Phoned a local garage and they said 90 quid to fit them, WHAT!?

So do i need spring compressors?

And its just couple of bolts on the rears and swap springs,
then remove shock from front and swap springs, right?

Yep...you'll need spring compressors (or the homemade equivalent...) to get them off the shocks safely...

Was thinking of just using standard clamps with a bar across the spring or something

if its an alto or matiz spring then there is only 10mm of preload, so you can just about start the thread on the nut without compressors
but if its lowering spring then i dunno
be careful with the brake hose when you jack the car up tho

lowering springs so think theres a bit extra on them, will see if i can borrow some compressors from somewhere just to be safe

30 quid in halfords is a bit of a rip

The top nut can be difficult to remove off the front damper. I loosened mine with an impact gun at work a couple of days prior as they wouldn't budge. I then just nipped them up to drive home.

No impact gun so wd40 and brute force will have to suffice

Slightly loosen the top nuts while the shocks are still fitted to the car....easy peasy....

Currently attempting lowering, cannot budge the two bolts at the bottom of the strut, seized solid

Plenty of wd40 on and been trying for half an hour and can't move them

Any helpful tips before I gives up and put the wheel back on?

Be patient, let the WD40 do its job.

nice length of bar to break that rust seal- spanner on bolt to stop spin

That or a round end spanner or a socket and a rubber mallet. Primitive impact wrench.lol
