Knocking Sound

I have a knocking noise coming from my front drivers side wheel/suspension when im driving, it's only when i go over bumps and is sometimes louder than others! Sounds like metal on metal kind of rattling! Anyone any ideas?

Had the garage have a look at it but they couldn't find anything!

I would expect it'll be a shock/balljoint or roll bar link has failed.

sometimes a bottom balljoint will show no movement when you jack it up (because it wears in the down position) so when i was at the mot course, they told us to shake the top of the wheel, with the car down, while someone checked for movement
