K12 multifunction unit fault.....anyone?

Hi just wondering is anyone can help?
I have a micra 1.2 k12 and recently (as the weather has been hotting up) the tempreture light has started flashing up, I've not heards the fan come on etc...

So today paid for diagnostic the guy who has looked at it says the engine temp is spot on 52 degrees? and the fan works manually and showed me it going... he then said that it wouldnt allow him to control the fan through the electronic thingy which meant that the mutlifunction unit has a problem with it and only a dealer could sort it?

Has anyone experienced this problem and is this going to be a fortune??fwn

I had a car with a malfunctioning fan, so I riged a light to come on when the unit that would normally switch the fan on so that i could flip a switch to do it manually cheaper option.
