Hello,
Currently own a 2004 K12 Micra with roughly 119,000 miles on the cl0ck. Owned it for years and the car has caused no issues up until a few weeks ago. The first problems were with starting the car, the car wouldn't 'accept' the key - i.e ignition barrel wouldn't rotate and the car wouldn't start. After a while the barrel would rotate but the engine just wouldn't switch on. This became progressively more common until recently where the car wouldn't start very often.
Under the mechanics instruction we bought a new key fob / ignition barrel (and associated items). We have just heard from the mechanic that the second barrel is causing the same problem, and instead of searching for a deeper issue with the car he's asking us to buy a second ignition barrel. It doesn't seem likely that two ignition barrels are both faulty, yet this is what he's claiming.
Does anyone have any experiences with these sort of issues? Do you think the mechanic is correct in his assessment? What else could it be? etc etc.
Thanks for your replies in advance,
M.
