K12 1.2 S 2003 - Airbag warning light

Hey,

I recently bought a 53 plate 1.2S Micra and the Airbag warning light has started flashing.

I put it into a garage today for them to do it under warranty, but their diagnostic machine isn't compatible - they say that only a main Nissan dealer or a Nissan specialist will have a compatible diagnostic machine - does anyone know whether this is the case or not?

Also, is this a common problem? I've heard that simply moving the seat back and forward can cause the wires to be moved/damaged and cause it to flash?

I'm getting my car back tomorrow morning to will fiddle with the chair/wires under it, see if I can get the light to stop flashing, but has anyone else had this same problem? What did you do about it? The main problem is that my warranty apparently doesn't cover diagnostics & testing, so it only covers the actual work done to fix it, which is a pain.

Cheers.

I have the EXACT SAME micra as what you have. I have had this problem twice, it lies with the connectors under the seat, they are weak. If you take it to a nissan dealer they will do it for you under warranty.

The airbags wont go off or anything, it will be safe in the meantime though. This is a really common issue.

Well the problem is that the warranty I have isn't with Nissan and they only pay up to £35 labour an hour, the nissan dealer I phoned charge £77, so I have to pay the difference, which I don't fancy doing.

It is poss to diagnos and switch off airbag light without the use of any diagnostic equipment just by turning the ignition in a set sequence and reading the flash code of airbag light, there is also a fix for the seat connectors that seams to sort it for good

Hi
Use a multi meter to measure resistance in the seat airbag or pre tensioner which should be two to three Ohms. Can be a little tricky if the plugs are fitted with Earthing strip inside which activates when you disconnect the plug. There are some good vids on utube. You can purchase a tester such as Autel MaxiDiag Elite MD802 For ALL System +DS Model OBD2 Code Reader, which can read SRS codes and makes life easy. My experience is the connectors are not that often to blame in Nissans as they are pretty good quality and the wires well protected under the seat. All ways be careful working on these as setting of an airbag accidently can very dangerous. Read up and disconnect the battery and wait the Airbag ECU to fully power down. This is a must if your changing a faulty airbag or pre-tensioner.
