K11 Over Reving

Hi all,

New to this site, so I appologise in advanced if I am asking something that not the norm on here.

I have a automatic 2002 K11 Facelift 1.4 SE. It's done less that 30k and is in pukka condition.

A few months ago I noticed that the car would take a little longer to jump in to the next gear and has become a bit less responsive and nippy. Now the engine light stays on and the Sports light flashes about 5 times when the car is started.

When starting my car and driving, the car seems to struggle to jump into the next gear and then over revs, moving very little with a lot of throttle being applied. This happens at the start of a journey, and I would need to turn the car on and off for it to go back to normal and be a driveable, but less responsive and nippy journey (with the engine light still on).

I have read online that throttle body issues are common with Micra's, but I took it to a sound and honest garage yesterday who said it seems like a problem with the clutch, which would mean a £650+VAT repair.

Just want to see if anyone on here has any advice as to what it could be, and if it is an easy enough fix for me to do.

Cheers,

Ian.

May I suggest you obtain a second opinion from a customer recommended local garage that can be quickly found via the Daily Telegraph motoring correspondent’s Good Garage Guide in your area;~ http://good-garage-guide.honestjohn.co.uk

The most competent & dedicated DIY owner repairer can research & sometimes work around resolve auto problems by simply changing the auto transmission fluid and its filter and or carbon brushes if applicable? K11 auto issues covered on this & many other forums via backroom searches.

Thanks for that. Seems like the gearbox after a few garages have had a look at it. I'm taking it to an old school micra specialist on Monday, hopefully they won't put the final nail in the coffin. I'll keep ya posted.

Follow up.....

It is indeed the gearbox. It's on its way out :( such a shame.

If anyone is interested in buying it drop me a message for more details.

Bangernomics

Sorry to read that your K11 Micra is nailed beyond economic repair by confirmation of CVT/auto failure.

I have experienced almost cost free bangernomics motoring for the last 20 years with a series of four ancient old K 10 and K 11 Micra’s that each achieved 150 K miles with no problems and only one AA callout!

Old and unwanted K11 Micra and Toyota Yaris with a year’s MOT and years of life left in them can still be bought privately for little more than scrap value. Keep the faith in bangernomics, it realy can work as I have proved over many years.

PS; Better to avoid the K 12 Micra as it is not suitable for a bangernomics motoring as loaded with unreliable Renault :eek:electronics/electrics.
Make your own good luck! ;)
