Hey guys, just in the process of researching billet flywheels and after viewing old threads decided to contact Perfect Run for a price on the JUN. From what I can tell these are a lot cheaper than previous :) - I'm just about to dent the plastic some more !! :p - Now before I order just checking that no one is going to post one up for sale tomorrow or anything!!

This is their quote to me today - shipping cost is to SA so probably cheaper to Eastern states.

Fvkc me!!

I paid $700 in 2003... And that was during a bulk buy too..

Was also one of the best mods I ever did, make the car so much fun to drive and it revved quicker than my motorbike does now

Probably better value than buying lightweight wheel nuts for $200 a set!!

Well now is the time for me as I am replacing the box in Charlotte. And with the pressure of now owning Yom's old girl I know anything I do to her needs to be be decent, and that means no lightening of the stocky Ha ha!

Mind you $90 for postage seems high :( but all over cost is less than I expected.

sikk11... one of the best mods u can do... I currently have a lightened stocky and it is a huge improvement on stock, in performance and throttle response... I am putting my light flywheel in soon myself so should see a another jump....;

That's a very interesting flywheel there frank.. Could all those holes in the contact area cause a lack of grip surface for the clutch to .. well grip onto? Hence why most lightweight ones around are just the original ring gear + chromoly centre or full chromoly flywheel with a flat surface for the clutch.

it was skimmed at a local machine shop, then i attacked it with a drill, then "balanced" it with a bearing in the middle and spun and chalked it (very crude but surprisingly accurate,..... now where did i put my stetson ? )

There's also a ultralight JUN flywheel, which most people miss these days, part number is 2010M-N027, takes the weight down from 4.3kgs to 3.6kgs. Depends on your requirements but it's always good to have the option as the U/L flyweels were made for a lot of cars but not the March, now they do them.

SSUK: Any idea on cost difference for the ultra lightweight and the regular JUN lightweight?

Also, would it generally be best to find a happy medium between incredibly quick revving and the ability to keep enough momentum in the engine so that you don't lose all your revs when off the power?

how very very very interesting.. should be cheaper cause there's less material used :D !!

Nice one SSUK - did more cost research and this is the deal. Now I don't know which one to choose (price is near as dammit though so cost is no prob).

Any of you Wise Micra Masters got some input on which one and why?

if its staying na.. id go the 3.6kg one and have it lightened some more... presonally wouldn't worry about this momentum ****.. i'm either into it, or i'm not. when i get some coin, i'll definately be going with the 3.6kg version for my na.. thanks for the research

The lighter the better I say. Might make gear changes a little less smooth but most people need a neck brace to ride with me anyway! As long as there's enough metal to hold it together. Only other downside to a lighter one is less metal to act as a heat sink to reduce the chance of the clutch overheating.

Dont wanna take away from the Jun but while on the subject of lightweight flywheels...i bought a few from www.alloyrace.com for a MSC group buy in the UK...very nice product (about 3.2kg's iirc), and i highly recommend the company. :)

Gives you an idea of the engine response :)

but whichever lightweight flywheel you choose you'll notice the difference.

Solarice - I think the ARC flywheels were the ones sold through Datrats when they were around. This is the one I'm using. The alloy is meant to offer better heat dissipation as well as being lighter than steel.

**** me, that needle moves fast! the lightest flywheel all the way boys! i'd just have a flex plate if i could

.... errr, torque? there's none to begin with, how can you lose something you don't have? :)

Ok now this may seems silly but one consideration for me is this: My car is a daily driver and on the drive home I go up a long steep section on the Freeway. If the traffic is clear I can get up to 110 (or 120:p) but when I catch up to a slower vehicle I obviously have to slow down until I can over take. My question is when I drop back a gear and floor it to gain speed again will the lighter flywheel improve my excelleration back up to the speed limit?

same thing, but again, will drop revs quicker also. i was talking to a clutch guru when i had my s14.. he said not to lighten the flywheel any more, i ended up getting an os giken twin plate kit for it, which was about 3kg lighter.. heaps better response, came on boost quicker etc... didn't really see any down side at all in that car

yeah thats what i thought when i was comparing the pictures, though i never actually asked ARC if they supplied datrats :)

lol yeah thats only on about 1/2 to 3/4 throttle aswell.

im happy with the response of it (who would'nt lol) and as im currently setting the car up for a supercharger i figured any downside like dropping revs etc, would quickly evaporate anyway...once my foot was planted lol.
