Import NCVT Drive Shaft's

Have used your site for a while and find it great, the throttle body fix worked well on my wife's Micra. Thanks.
The car is in great condition with only 100,000 km's.
I can not find any information on my current problem on site so posted new message.
The NCVT has had a bearing noise for a while and the noise would stop when the car stopped in gear however if slowed down and put in "N" before actual full stop the noise continued to wind down. To me this would be an input shaft bearing. With no parts in Aust and one month away comments from Nissan. I pulled the transmission out (oil in bell housing proved input shaft bearing and seal rs)and bought NCVT with 6 months warranty from an importer. The plan was to swap box and straight back on the road.
The import box has a NB prefix to the gearbox number and the original was an N3, they looked the same. However the final drive on the new unit is about 2cm wider towards the passenger side than the original unit.
Original nearside short drive shaft spline to short to engage the diff spline, tried a few local cv joint guys and they were not much help, any ideas on what shaft might fit? Or any other way out of this problem?

Would change to manual however bought car due to wife's having back and left leg problems and would have to sell if converted and she wants to keep it.

You possibly need the passenger side inner CV from an RS5F31V 5spd manual gearbox. These were sold in Australia as an option in the N13 Pulsar & it's rebadged Holden equivalent with 1.8L engines. The V stands for Viscous LSD, they have a longer passenger side inner CV to engage with both the diff & viscous coupling. Your halfshaft is probably 2cm too long also.

This is some interesting news.
Previously all reports have said that the CVT halfshafts could be used for fitting the RS5F31V from a GA powered Pulsar, into a K11. So it appears that there are two model CVTs. Could you please give the rest of the NB & N3 trans numbers, particularly any A or V at the end?
The description you give of the final drive being 2cm wider is just like the differences you see in the RS5F31 & RS5F32 5spd manual boxes for A open & V viscous LSD options.
Don't suppose there are viscous & open versions for the CVT?
Standard nissan auto transmissions have the Viscous option, so it's possible.
You might be able to look inside the passenger side CV holes of both boxes & check is you can see one or two splines that the CV would engage with. Also are the splines the same size, inner & outer, as well as between each CVT box?

Hi aj

Thanks for the advice on Pulsar

N3 TB40 NRG 1AA on the original box and the carrier are single gears on each side and the seals are mounted on the housing.

NB TB40 NRD 2EA on the import box, the nearside has two splines as you suggest and they are both longer than the single spline on old box by about 1/3. The offside drive gear is also 1/3 longer and the snap ring will not fully engage. The bearings are also set with a stronger looking inner mount and the seals are mounted outside.

If this means LSD CVT great, does it get me any closer to a set of drive shafts?

My old box has little bits of what looks like drill swarf hanging out of the input seal (bugger) where as the import box even has brand new brushes so I would like to fit it if I can.

Take the new CVT down to a CV or driveline shop check the Pulsar CV.
You might have to get the halfshaft shortened by 2cm. Finding one that would fit in Australia is probably very hard. I guess you've asked the company that supplied the CVT? Otherwise you could try sourcing one out of NZ or Japan.
Can't think of anything else than it being viscous LSD, there's no other reason to have two splines. Did the old CVT ever spin wheels on wet roads?

Japan is an expensive way to go atm bro..
Lets just say this

http://page12.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/p108909493

is what u need (for example)

$81, plus average kinda freight.. shipped to me in Brisbane by air.
works out about $400. (as an example) incl the taxes and charges.
That's using a middle man agency to buy it. (Import Monster)
There's prob a few cheaper out there.. by 10/20 bucks of original sale price, and if u got it shipped by sea the freight is dramatically reduced, but that takes 5-12 weeks depending on factors... I waited for 16 weeks for something once.

anyhow I would think its cheaper ( and quicker ) to get it milled by a driveshaft specialist. If u want all the jap links i can turn up let me know.

The old CVT was a normal diff, I've never really pushed this car as I do not trust the strength of the transmission.

The suppliers are happy to take the box back and refund however do not see driveshafts as their problem and if I take it back this means still no car.

Will try local cv guys today to see where they get me

Thanks will try oversees option later if I have too.

Took gearbox and shafts to a CV guy in aurburn sydney and he said is LSD. Later model box than exa/pulsar and showed set of axles that did not fit. Then showed me some inner ends that did fit. Wants $800 plus to make up shafts to fit Micra outer ends. So it looks like the jap way may be the cheapest option if I can find out what will fit.
