Hi, anyone got knowledge of the CVT workings at all?

I have a broken CVT. I have checked fuses and removed brushes, all seems fine. Is there a next step or do all next steps mean big money jobs?
It's only worth £500 max, I'm so disappointed!
Can you help?

I was wondering if anyone knows the problems there might be.
Is there a belt?
It's a "powder" clutch, could it possibly need fresh powder, does it actually have powder or is that just a term?
Could it be the drive shaft(s) if so is there an easy way to tell?
Any help please, greatly appreciated.
Thanks

they are metal filings that stick together when magnatised on the pre 2000, have you tried the diagnosis procedure ?

Is there ever an occasion that the filings need to be topped up? I did the diagnostic when it first happened and that was code 4, that is why I removed the brushes (hoping it would be as simple as replacing them) but the brushes look absolutely fine. Now the diagnostic shows no fault code at all.
So, now I don't know the next step. Any guidance?

That would be bad, wouldn't it? Not something I could repair as an amateur? Do you know if it is a metal belt, is it remotely accessible to a normal joe like me?
I was hoping it might be a drive shaft issue but not sure how to check that easily?
Am I on a hiding to nothing hoping to repair it?
