How important are they? I had to remove the first part to get at the gear lever return spring and have a look at the gear linkage. Unfortunately 2 of the bolts sheered off and due to the design of the heat shields, each piece is attached to the next and relies on that one to hold it in place, I had to remove the lot, sheering more bolts doing so. Just worried about heat build up, especially around the fuel tank?
I put what bolts that came out as one back in there holes and tightened them up. Obviously the holes from the broken bolts are blocked by the broken pieces of bolt. Is it best that I put the heat shield back and how best is it to do this?
Should I drill out the broken bolts and re-thread the holes, drill new holes and thread those or just drill new holes and rivet it on?
Also experiencing alot more noise which I put down to road noise that might normally be partially deadened by the heat shield... has anyone else experienced this?
