Gearbox

Hi Guys.
I am planning to put a micra engine in my Mini but the problem is space.
A few people are doing this as we speak but there seems to be two different sized gearboxes. Would I be right in saying that pre 1998 boxes are smaller?
the extra couple of inches of the bigger box causes all sorts of clearance problems. Any info please.

hi jim (Y) the pre98 1.0 g/box is 12" 1/2 wide, and you could shave another inch off with a custom flywheel, but i dont know how wide the RS5F30A ones are
