Front strut removal

Can the struts be removed as a complete unit? i.e. Undo the top mount bolts, undo the pinch bolts on the hub carrier, out it comes.
Will the spring need compressing to get it out?

yes mark, there,s about 3 inches of preload, so you have to jack the car off the spring, or else use compressors

the struts can be taken off as a whole mate but to get the spring out you will need spring compressors

I got a "Computer says no" response from my insurance company when I asked about extending the cover to mods, and there isn't a snowball's chance of my wife agreeing to cancel the policy that is paid for jointly to re-insure with a more expensive policy with mods.

So my current plan is to find a pair of struts and rear springs. If I can swap these over easily enough I can have a short set and stock set, drive about day to day on the stockers and sling the short set in occasionally for weekend shows and that sort of thing.
