fFITTING A 12V SOCKET TO MY NISSAN MICRA??

morning,

I have a NissanMicraProfileAuto 1.0 1999 model and it doesn't come with a 12vsocket. There is however an area / slot where one could be fitted. I have attached a picture of a 12v socket I have bought. Where would I be able to find the correct wires to attach to the 12v socket?

Would be great for your help, thanks.

Hi @beatles2011, you have a couple of options. You could just wire it direct to a power source so its always on. A bit crude though.

Ideally you only want it powered when the ignition is on, so I would tap the +12v into the radio power, and the black (-neg) can just be earthed on the nearest screw that goes into something metal.

You can test the right wire using a 12v bulb but it should be fairly obvious; red and probably fused.

If you're just using the socket to power devices like phones or sat nav then the draw is very low.

Hth.

Would I need any plugs etc... to wire it into the radio?

Easiest method is probably crimp connectors.

You don't need to cut any wires, simply fit the crimp over the wire you are tapping into, and insert your other wire into the other side, then squeeze with a decent pair of pliers. Give it a tug test to make sure its sound and you are good to go.

Buy a few crimps and practice on some spare wires first if you need to.

Hi again,

I have ordered some crimp connectors, which one of the many wires would I add the crimp to? Also some Micras have some spare wires that were designed for the 12v socket behind the dash. There is one plug that isn't attached to anything but I don't think that's for a 12v socket?

Hi,

Good pics, but i cant reconcile what that last plug in the last pic is for, so lets ignore that.

Firstly you need one of these. I's a test bulb, you clip it onto a good earth, then use the pointy end to test if something is 12v. Even better would be a multimeter but we may be getting carried away a bit there.

HTB1LefzHFXXXXaEXXXXq6xXFXXXx.jpg

I have checked the K11 wiring diagrams (if you don't own a Haynes manual, add that to your list too) and it looks like the solid RED is +12v constant (keep alive for the radio memory), and BLUE/BLACK is IGN +12v (so when you turn the key to ACC).

BUT YOU NEED TO TEST THESE FOR YOURSELF TO CONFIRM, hence the test bulb. If you wire things up wrong, you can short things out, start fires etc. Not good. So check everything in case I'm wrong!

Once confirmed, Tap the RED wire on your new socket (keeping the fuse) into the BLUE/BLACK wire.

The other wire on your socket needs to be earthed, so stick a ring connector on the end and secure it to something that goes to ground.

Once wired up, you can test the socket with the push lighter or just shove a charger plug in there.

Below is a pic of the relevant wiring from the Haynes manual.

Hope this helps, but PM me if you need to.

Regards,

Chris.
