Engine removal

Hi

if i was to remove a K10 micra engine, could just the engine be removed leaving the gearbox in place or would i have to take the whole lot out, as i dont know much about drive shafts or how to disconnect an automatic transmission

i,ve always lowered the g/box down and lifted the engine out on mine steve (k10,s have at least as much room surely ?)

ive rescently swapped out my engine leaving the gearbox in place, just support the gearbox underneath and lift the engine out.

you can leave the gearbox in place but it makes life alot easier to take it out with the engine. disconnect the shift cable, remove the nuts off the bottom arms to free the legs to yank the driveshafts out.

sorry i totally have to dissagree with that, how it easier raising and supporting the car, loosening the mega tight hub nuts, the son of a bit£h bottom ball joints, etc. that just undoing the 5 bolts that hold the gearbox on and wiggling it off??? which you have to do anyway even if you take it out as a complete unit. oh and drop and replace the nasty stinky gearbox oil.

the way i do it you dont even have to raise the car.

im just worried about having enough room to slide it sideways away from the gearbox, as the clutch will have to be clear of the bell housing and its also an auto box which is mahuusive!!! and heavy

and its more like, you have to slide/twist the g/box away from the engine steve, and lower it down on a jack
