Engine light flicker, non starter

Hi guys engine light flickering, starts & runs but dies after 4-5 seconds.

From what I've read through here its a NAT's problem & only fix is a de nats ecu from Ed? without swopping ignition & loom etc?

Its on a friend of a friends Frank so I've got him to get a code reader plugged in as soon as he can

98 from what im told bud, are the coilpacks prone to the same thing?

also check if the ECU boards shorted or wet from any water leakage

it,ll be obd1 then paul, (pre-coilpack) best to short the 2 wires and count the flashes really

Is flicker normally linked with electrical faults? Mine does it once in a while, my key barely sits in the barrel anymore it's that worn so it might not be close enough for NATS when starting up. W Reg here.

Hi guys, update on the car is the ECU was fried / water damage.

As its a 1998 facelift im thinking so long as the ECU/NATS boxes/ Ign Barrel & keys are swopped she should be a runner again?

i think nats 2 is later pre-facelift mate. with the 4 wire transceiver and extra nats box on the n/s pillar
i believe facelift are nats 5, with the bigger 7 or 8 wire transceiver, and no nats box

your right mine never had any immobiliser related box on the N/S. May be hard to track down a 98-99 only ECU as i guess the coilpack ECU wouldnt be much use with a dizzy engine! There were 2 black boxes in the drivers footwell but ive no idea if they were NATS related

If i do try and get the car on the road i might just get a NAT's removed ECU from Ed to save the hassle

If not il still break it for parts instead
