ECU "re-code"

has anyone had there ignition ECU re-coded?
if you have could you please post the symptoms your car had that made you find the fault was with the ECU?
ive a technician coming out over the weekend to test the ECU in my daughters car due to some issues it's been having.

mainly
starting issue's .. it can start first turn some time's, switch it off & it won't start! ive noticed that doing the "5 sec" key/ignition reset work's as does pressing the open button on the key fobe.
weak spark at the plug's, lok's like it spark's just once at the plug's then nothing?
lumpy (running only 3 cylinders?) once driven, hot or cold

yeah, there have been a few, the usual P0340, crank sensor which i renewed.
every now and then the red "PS" light will come on for the steering, couple of other codes have been
U1001 for power steering & P1611 that i'm not 100% is for, it seams to cover a lot of different items?
