CV Joint wont pass burred driveshaft, any ideas?

Hi, I've been changing the CV joints on my 2002 K11 Nissan Micra (UK) and whilst the old joints came off fine the new joints wont go on because of what looks like burred splines on the driveshaft.

Little pieces of metal seem to be sticking up just after where the cir-clip goes and are slightly misshapen which is stopping the joint going on, this happens both with the cir-clip in place and without and is very frustrating.

I can get the joint on to the first part of the shaft up to where the cir-clip is perfectly fine, but after that it's slightly damaged and I'm wondering if anyone has any idea how to remove the burrs? Is it just going to need some filing down or something?

I hope the pictures are clear enough to see. I don't really have the time or money to replace the whole driveshaft right now so I was hoping it would be fixable with a little work, but I'm not sure how to proceed, any ideas? I'd really appreciate some help.

May I suggest try cleaning up splines with some good hard work applied wire brushing in line with the splines?

If that is insufficient to remove the debris obstructions, the next option is too clear them with a fine needle file carefully applied in line with the splines.

When I DIY changed my CV joints & boots, too get the CV joints onto & over the circlip required a good hard whack with a soft lump hammer & the clip held down with reference to youtube tutorial videos.

I assume that you have counted & checked number of splines & diameters correspond?

How did you resolve your track control arm concealed spinning captive bolt issue last May 2024?

Looks like the old CV joint has been hammered violently onto the driveshaft while the C-clip wasn't sitting perfectly concentric, therefore damaging the splines.

while the C-clip is currently removed,
- I'd suggest cleaning all dirt/grease off the splines 1st (using brake cleaner & toothbrush),
- then carefully remove all the visibly deformed burrs off the spline edges (using a suitable mini hand file or even a dremel cutting disc) until all the splines appear unobstructed,
- test fit the new CV joint onto the spline (it should slide in effortlessly),
- once confirmed, reinstall a correctly sized C-clip & apply a dab of grease along the C-clip groove to keep it sitting concentric,
- install CV boot & new Joint (it should click in place with ONLY a light tap of the hammer while pushing the joint onto the shaft to overcome the C-clip tension),
- if joint still doesn't slide in with light-taps, recheck the C-clip is sitting concentric to the groove

Perhaps the new CV joint has been hammered on in an attempt to fit it without success resulting in the splines damage?

Thus the apparently new CV joint internal female splines will be similarly distorted damaged & require cleaning up dressing with a fine needle file or more simply replacing with yet another new correctly sized fitting CV joint?

Either way it looks & sounds like a great banging fun way for every one to spend the weekends & evenings free time?
