CV joint slack towards / away from wheel OK?

Hi, The N/S outer CV joint boot on my Micra 1.0 has failed. There is still grease on the joint. I plan to replace the boot, when ckecking the joint I found no rotational slack at all but there is about 1mm of slack towards and away from the wheel / gearbox. Is this normal or should I replace the CV joint as well.

you,ll only need to replace the joint if it,s clicking on lock

Hi, There was some noise on lock untill I removed the old boot and repacked with grease. With new grease and no boot (Just to ckeck the joint) I did a quick test run and could not provoke any noise even on full lock with quite alot of power (it was understeering a bit).

I am just concerned about this back and foward end float. The other side seems to do it as well but it could be worn as well.

So is it basically the case if there is no click its OK?

Sorry to be a pain but I don't want to take it all apart then have to do it again.

i would,nt worry about the end float, the haynes method of removal is a bit long winded btw, i always just take the 2 leg bolts out and put it on full lock
