Cleaning the heater

Hey everyone, this is Amsterdam calling.

I just got a 1995 Micra K11 and am in the process of doing some well-needed back maintenance. On top of my list is fixing the heater/blower, which currently only works at setting "4". I've gathered from older posts that this would require replacing the heater resistor, so I've ordered one from Nissan and expect it to arrive somewhere this week.

However, I've read somewhere that if the heater motor doesn't work properly, the new resistor will probably blow as well. So I'd really like to clean out the heater motor and fan before I put in the new resistor.

Can anyone give me some instructions how to go about this?

very very much dout the new card will blow mine only worked on the last setting for 2 years till i got a new card banged it in and its been ok. is the motor sound like its working ok or you just suspecting this because you may have read about this happening? personaly i wouldnt worry about it unless you think the motor is faulty. just put the new card in

shame you ordered a new one as the old one can be fixed with a soldering iron.

Unfortunately, on my cart you can't see the circuits or any old solder. It's just black (or white, depending on the side). Should I just put a nice blob of solder over the corroded spot, regardless?

hi timstr, you could maybe try some paint stripper, to reveal the circuit, but it looks nackered to me

After giving the resistor a thorough clean (thanks for the suggestion, frank), I think I might be able to fix her up. Will try this weekend.

moddedmicra, I saw you installed Rightclick's central locking system in your K11. How much work would that be for someone who's new to this stuff?

Use high temperature solder otherwise you'll only have a temporary fix! And spray it with lacquer to stop any further corrosion

(not sure how hot these resistors get, but hopefully not hot enough to burn the lacquer off)

its fairly easy mate, most difficult bit is feeding the wires into the doors tbh.

Never mind that, just picked up a copy from eBay.
