I noticed the larger pipe going into the carbon canister was disconnected and hanging loose, this also explained the smell of fumes every time I startes the car.
I connected it back up but has someone disconnected it for a reason? Its a tight fit so I don't think it just came off by itself

Also the pipe connected off this pipe goes down the the bottom of the engine bay and isn't connected to anything, is this just acting as an overflow or should it be attached somewhere?

its the carbon canister, something to do with collecting unwanted fumes and burning them off at a later stage

and apparently not, theres a thread about removing it somewhere
