Battery removal for external charge (help!)

My car apparently hates me right now!

I last posted about a possible alternator belt change, which I assumed to be the problem for the battery light coming on when I tried to firmly accelerate. Since then it's kinda gone down hill..

Not long after that, my car died for a split second. Started straight away. I didn't even notice it had happened. Brother told me to stop driving in 5th and actually let it rev. So I did. Worked fine for about 2 weeks, hardly any battery light! Oh, I also had no radio. I didn't now you had to have a code so I pressed random buttons, causing it to tell me to, as you can imagine, "wait 1 hour"... *sigh*

Anyway, about a week ago, I started my car. The engine shook the entire vehicle for about 10 seconds. Called my brother, told him to be prepared in case I broke down, but nope, it was all fine. The next day, car won't start. Tried jump starting it with an MX5 and a LR 110, both unsuccessful.

It's been suggested to remove the battery for external charging. Is there a specific way to do this, without causing any more problems? Something about, disrupting ECU or.. I have no idea.. Additionally, how do I fix the radio? Unplug it and plug it back in?

Thanks in advance!

Stereo,if you ask jen on here very nicely she be able to get your code for you,but you'll need the numbers off it,or just buy a cheap after market one. Also in regards to battery, have you tried a battery off someone else that you know works, ive had 3 batteries in the car aince buying it,fir some reason they dont seem to last as long in micras

No corrosion on the terminals. I think I've got my hands on someone who knows how to sort the radio now, but thank you! Not sure who I know who has a battery which would fit.. I don't have a clue. How would I find that out? Like is there specific types of car with the same?

We brought in the battery to charge but it shows it's fully charged. Brother is thinking it might be spark plugs. Ordering some of those now... Also, you'll be pleased to know, finally getting that Haynes manual!

Oh, I also smashed my head on the corner of the bonnet. I'm sure I'll end up doing that again.

Oh yes,its a car that likes to fight back! If batt is fully charged then its defo not alternator problem. You'll find the haynes brill for all jobs, follow that for spark plug change, and contact a dealer as you will find the inlet manifold seals are almost gauranteed to need replacing. I posted the part number for those on the forum recently. I tend to change those every time i do sparks as its all in the same area/job

Oh wait, not the tetminals of the battery, but on the positive lead for the battery, there is a half clear anf half red thin box,had a couple of copper blades inside that are fuses, that is the fuseable link i meant. Also check earth cables, they create all same symptoms as battery problems. Only earth i recall off top of me head for a min is altetnator to slam panel right by drivers headlamp

I'm not sure, I'll have another look at that. I don't think any corrosion was spotted, but, yeah will check when we next take a look.

Here's a short video of us trying to start the car, if that helps identify a problem, Idk..:

You changed the sparks? Is odd, mines had odd occasion of not wanting to start usually after heavy rain, and sometimes solenoid sticks aftet starting, not had this prob before tho

Bought the spark plugs, they'll be delivered within a few days.

Not checked for faults. I think my brother has a fault code reader though.. If so, we'll do that along with the plugs, and update when that happens.

If theres a fault like that the engine light would show for sure. Micra is very seslnsitive like that lol Could even be something daft like tip of plug been bent and touching the plug

Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugh.

Tried the car again. Battery was dead. Tried jump starting. No improvement. Took out the radio and the fuse thinking it was sucking out the battery (even though it was turned off) as it's been read that it causes problems. Got a new battery. Car now doesn't even bother starting. Turn the key and complete silence. Though, the dash lights still come on, locking works etc.

Also didn't bother doing spark plugs. Wanted battery sorted first.

Any ideas? Going mental.. -_-

Yes it is sorry. You will need it plugged in and erased. Might come up with chain of immu-ecm and lock mode. If its them and it wont erase it will need the key coded.

There fussy with flat batteries. I have had it happen to me several times while doing engine work and flat batteries. They think there being stolen and lock the system out.

Do you know if that reprogrammes the central locking or the immobiliser, or both? Because the key still works the central locking fine, so wouldn't want to bugger that up.

Used the fault code reader and it has a fault code "P1611" which once it's cleared, comes straight back again. Any ideas?

OH MY GOD IT WORKS.

Changed the battery in the spare key fob (it's been dead since I bought the car), which got the car to almost start. Lots of revs later, and it works. Sounded like a diesel at first. 2 weeks not running. But all good now yaaaaaaaaaay. Gunna put oil in it a bit later, then take it for a short drive. Hopefully it's all fine..

All this over a dead battery. Ridiculous.

Did you try the key turning thing to switch the key light off? Mine comes on but after a couple of miles driving,no running issues or starting issues.

What key turning thing? As in, the reprogramming thing which was linked above? If so, nope, didn't need to, it just worked with the spare key.
