Auto Gearbox Fault 1.0L 1995

Engine runs fine but car will not move when Drive or Reverse selected. Fluid level seems OK and cable into gearbox housings seems to be working fine.

has the transmission fluid and filter ever been changed?
If you can smell a "burnt" smell of the fluid like well used chip pan oil, it seriously needs changed. I have come across similar problems with auto mercs at work, one of which had an internal fault caused by the ATF being overheated badly and not changed, blocking the filter, starving the box and torque converter of fluid.fwnfwnfwn
