What exactly are you planning to do for your Micra, this piece of information would help to answer your question...?
The DTC u1000 is Fault with the CAN communications on the vehicle, I would presume one of your nodes are killing the CANbus.
If it's a hard Fault I would recommend monitoring the CANbus, you can use the OBD connector for this and ensure CANH and CANL are around 2.5volts. It should be a straight line with Communication packages flowing. If the CANbus is all over the place I would recommend pulling each node out one by one (Ie EPS, BCM, ECM etc... )
This will generate faults on your car so make sure you have a diagnostic kit to keep clearing them. But I would start with the EPS system, you can remove the upper dash cover and get access to the EPS connectors. I know the EPS had this as a Fault around 2003 and 2004.
