just realised that the alloys i am buying are much wider than the ones i currently have fitted,

they are Mx-5 14" - 6"

will this be a problem?

the 6" width wont be a problem tom, ideally you need about 20mm offset (the amount of dishness)

is that so it can clear the calipers?

they are coming from another micra, but thats prefacelift and i just had a bit of a panic attack over it

i think a "j" offset is about 35mm (same as stock wheels) they should be fine tom (i prefer the wheels spaced out a little tho, 20mm ish offset)

The J refers to the bead profile of the wheel, (the shape of the mounting surface for the tyre). It has nothing whatsoever to do with offset.

14" x 6" means they are 14" in diameter and 6" wide.

MX5s standard offsets are 40-45mm.
