the small hose leading from the filter to the engine cam covers top left is the pcv breather pipe. it supplies filtered air into the engine crankcase during closed throttle to vent out nasty vapours into the inlet to be burnt.

the pipe from the front engine block leading up to the front of the cam cover allows the nasty vapours from the crankcase to be vented through the cam cover casing and then through the PCV valve round the back of the cover only during high inlet vacuum (throttle closed)

so if i wanted to remove the stock airfilter and put an aftermarket one straight onto the throttle body what would i do with those hoses??

either connect a hose from the cam cover pcv breather port to a port inbetween the filter and TB (whether its provided or self fabricated in),
or if thats not possible, install a little breather filter at the pcv breather port.
