55 plate K12 door lock actuator.

I recently replaced a noisy passenger door lock actuator but couldn't manage to connect the rod to the emergency lock barrel. Is there any easy way to do this without stripping the whole door apart again? I am dreading the battery going flat and having to smash a window to get in the car.

I'm in the same situation I think trying to attach the pink plastic to the link rod
