2nd Gen Facelift Steering Wheel on 1st Gen Facelift car?

Hi everybody,
Was wondering if the steering wheel from the post 2000 Micra's would fit on my 1998 Micra. My main concern is the airbag connecter will be different and / or the airbag software will be different and the SRS module from the 1998 car won't be able to communicate with the post 2000 airbag, causing an 'AIR BAG' light and subsequently an MOT failiure
