So my wee Micra has just failed its MOT on brake lines with excessive corrosion on the lines themselves and ferules going to the flexis and the garage quoted... £543.62 to fix it. Am I missing something here or is this not excessively pricey?

New radiator cap as driving up to Scotland the coolant expansion kept draining + a gurgling noise when I shut the engine off. No signs of a leak anywhere so fingers crossed that fixes it.

Unfortunately not. Got my licence exam coming up this Thursday so I haven't done anything for about 8 weeks. Also my old man dumped a fiat in my garage with no mot etc so I can't even reach the engine.

Just to add to this, if you are interested in learning about this sort of stuff these cars are almost impossible to break beyond recovery.

Will have a look. I'm thinking its the inside tailgate panel as its a wee bit loose and makes a similarish twanging rattle if you flick it plus theres some scratches on the tailgate where its been rubbish / hitting the boot.

Externally too? If the outside is clogged up with crap blocking the airflow then your heat transfer drops quite a bit. I wouldn't think the rad cap by itself would cause an overheat, instead it'd be more of a contributing factor.

Cooling systems won't always bubble if air locked, try bleeding it. Ignore, just re-read and you said you get heat through so unlikely to be air block. You could have a blocked radiator core (since you said you changed thermostat). Check its temperature (carefully) after turning the engine...
