My Blue Turd - K11 Sport

PROJECT PASS FIRST MOT This whole "what a bugger to get off thing" seems to be a recurring theme. Failed MOT this morning on split CV boot and brake pads, which started grinding the night before. Turns out one pad had seized and caused uneven wear, so I didn't notice when I checked. The good...

    Common MOT failures?

Okay so we actually had to GRIND the old CV joint off. Neighbour is a TVR mechanic, ex. Land Rover mechanic who has a number of old battered 4x4's and he said it's the most stuck one he's ever seen. All sorted eventually! You know you've had a hard job when replacing all of your brake gear in...

    Common MOT failures?

So it failed! Not on anything I wasn't expecting. A CV joint was split and the drivers side brake pads were worn right down. I tried the CV yesterday but couldn't break it free from the hub and didn't want to destroy the nut to drive home. I have a new joint on the way as I think I'll destroy...

    Insurance

Sounds like you changed something in the details you submitted to make that much of a difference! I pay £1100 with M&S, 20 years old, 0 NCB living in the countryside which brings it down a fair bit, I'm unemployed at the moment though as far as insurance is concerned which drives up the price...

My Blue Turd - K11 Sport

I've posted how I did it in this very thread! Really simple and can also be done in an oven. Don't think I posted this picture from an amazing sunset drive the other day. Looking good for her MOT on Thursdsy!

    Common MOT failures?

I have done that, did eventually find a tiny pin hole leak where the pipe joins the back box, so there's a new one on the way :) It's odd because the whole exhaust system from the cat back looks pretty shiny, bar the back box which was rusty underneath. Must be a water buildup, maybe the...

    2nd Facelift Drive Belt

So we've had this discussion before, and established that unlike the service manual and most people seem to think, the second facelift or at least a good number of them have no tensioning idler for the PAS / Water Pump belt. I think I've found the adjuster bolt on the PAS pump, but there is no...

My Blue Turd - K11 Sport

Looks like the Outback is going to be kept and will come back on the scene come June when I've made it perfect and have some no claims to throw at it. Micra will always be kept as a super fun reliable backup / run around. The next few days are going to be getting it MOT ready. All of my...

    Common MOT failures?

I haven't got time to do the x-member before the MOT. It's more than 30cm away from any suspension components an it's not the strictest test centre in the world so hopefully it'll be an advisory. It's not much worse than it would have been for it's last MOT. I've checked and checked again for...

    Common MOT failures?

Apart from my front cross member, I'm near enough rust free :) I've heard the front x-member isn't a failure as it's not near suspension components, hopefully this is true!

    Common MOT failures?

My K11 is due its first MOT with me as its owner next week. What are the common failings that I should check? So far I've found a split CV boot and an outer track rod end needs replacing which I believe would both be failures. I do have a small leak in my back box, would this usually pass...

This was mine, 4th plug was obviously the loose one. 3rd was pretty bad too.

Has anyone snailed a CG10DE coilpack engine?

Great thanks for the replies! It'll be after Christmas once I've fixed some other niggles with the suspension, but the CG13DE block with my current coilpack head sounds like a good base. Sounds like a good time to sort out my cross member, do a cable tuck and sort out some minor engine bay rust...

Has anyone snailed a CG10DE coilpack engine?

I mean Nistune, MegaSquirt etc. Because the ECU controls the coilpacks, would they still work? I suppose that raises another question - how well do Micra's take to remaps stock? Is there more to be gained without changing anything? I'm coming from VW's and Turbo Diesel engines where there were...

My Blue Turd - K11 Sport

Ended up going for NGK BKR5E-11's. I had a lovely surprise from my old insurance company from the Subaru who wanted £90 for cancelling my policy early. I have a wedding to attend in two weeks, and Christmas is looming ever closer so the wheels have had to wait :( Gutted as I'd found a set of 15"...

Has anyone snailed a CG10DE coilpack engine?

Well as a CG13DE can be had for under £200 and doesn't require any fabrication, that sounds like a good starting point for someone like myself with a bit of mechanical knowledge but nothing very advanced and no welding skills. That would certainly give me more confidence if I still wanted to...

Has anyone snailed a CG10DE coilpack engine?

So I wouldn't need to invest in a standalone ECU? This is one of the main reasons doing a turbo seems uneconomical compared to a swap.

Has anyone snailed a CG10DE coilpack engine?

That sounds like a very good option. So if you were to run a CG10 gearbox and flywheel, you wouldn't need to modify any mounts? I was also wondering if there was a coil pack CG13DE or if the few I'm seeing on eBay are in fact CGA3's labeled wrong?
