    the fireblade has a compression ratio of 12.3:1 as standard and ours had a 0.45mm head skim. and yes, you have to map it correctly for the RON you're using. more octane is more resistance to detonation.

    i definitely need to use/borrow/rent these at some point. ive been talking about doing the piston swop for well over a year now! still considering new big end bearings, but have a block, new head gasket and bolts etc..... how happy are the gudgeon pins after theyve been pushed out? i guess...

    sorry frank, i meant a tool for the gudgeon pins. i thought you had a cylinder the piston sat in so you dont damage it pushing the pin out. awesome halflink by the way! those piston rings seem to have disappeared from ebay!!! although its a while since i looked for them.

    check power steering fluid. if its low, it could be overheating and very thin..... could give "light" steering feel.....

    best bet is 195s. when i bought my 15s, they had 205/45/15 on and scrubbed a little. now ive got 195/50/15 toyo t1-r s and they dont scrub. almera gti alloys :) also, the 195/50/15 toyo t1-r is the cheapest thing you can buy thats any good! £35 odd quid on demontweeks, and theyre epic!

    when i had to remove, i left mine to soak in a mixture of double TT (carplans equivalent of WD40) and 3-in-1. overnight. taped a plastic bag around them and filled them to the top of the bolthead on the cat. i just kept applying mix on a brush to the underneath bolt. always use 6-sided sockets...

    it can be done without removing the exhaust yes. they aren't interference fit, but it will make it more awkward. i just use instant gasket for the sump etc. only use a proper original gasket for the head.
