Had a right pig of a job getting that centre section out on my 1.3 1995.... Decided to take the lot off from the downpipe and then found the downpipe section bolt had seized and that snapped ...... so ended up having to remove the lot including the manifold ..ground off all the nuts securing it...

Definately worth checking for air leaks first ... vac hoses etc Hmmm i would have thought it might take a little while to re set itself as its likely been running poor for a while.... also does your model have and idle adjustment ... again if the mafs been playing up perhaps someone has...

Why dont you practice on your old front bumper ...remove it ... buy a glass fibre kit and repair from the back ... plenty of layers to give it strength ... once dry use body filler on the front to fill any gaps ..... sand down ... prime ... topcoat ... will cost you about £50 i reckon. It cant...

I use the Hammerite with waxoyl and paint it on .... i had a sprayer years ago but it was a pain to keep clean after the first use. Its a nasty dirty horrible job .... have a bottle of white spirit to clean up with afterwards ... but its well worth it .. and indeed if an MOTer wants to check he...

I just painted the waxoyl over the lines running down the underneath of the car ..also where the metal pipes come up to the hoses on the wheels ....... and use a little copperease on the union connections on the hoses also ...... . never been commented on in 7 years of MOTs..... and also...

Definately do with waxoyl .... rear arches ..... just make sure you get all the muck out of the lip before ......... along the sills and that front cross member.... i filled mine up with waxoyl 7 years ago and it had been welded and was beginning to rust again .... still solid .... also did over...

You need to sand down and get rid of the rust ..you can sand this down by hand but it will take time and effort .... ideally a power sander will make the job easier .......... ideally orbital ..... ... this needs to be done on a dry day........... any pitted areas need all the rust gone.....you...

IMHO do the rear arch first ... the sooner its done the less it will cost .... I know the front is the bit thats bugging you .... but bumpers and wings can be taken off/replaced ... rear arches cannot ... make that the priority....... ;)

Its really not that bad ..... As said the front arches just unbolt so look to the scrappies for a cheap replacement ..... its a 30 minute job ... Rear wheel arch .... grind off all the rust ..... it has to be ALL of the rust ..... if you leave some it will come back ..... .... if its holed its...
