    Lumpy Idle

If the head was changed I would re-examine the camshaft timing to be sure it isn't a tooth out or something. While you've cracked it open you can check for excessive play in the top (cam) chain. Applies irrespective of dizzy/coilpack.

    De cat or cat?

I'd keep the old one. If it's an original nissan one it may well flow better than a cheap generic part anyways.

    Ade's SR

There was a warm turbo version of these, but they all came with a funny auto box I think. Might be some nice bits around. I've always liked the look of them, especially the longitudinal bonnet crease. But then I'm strange like that.

    Advice please!

Best thing you can do is contact your local motor club(s). Have a look at their websites, read past event reports and study the regulations. Go to a club night and talk to people who do what you want to do. It's really straightforward to get started in grass roots motorsport and it you can do...

    Advice please!

What's your budget? You'll need a couple of grand realistically to get started in rally, plus a budget for maintenance and event costs. Trackdays you can do for the price of a car; strip it out, bucket seat and harness and you're good to go. There's also grass tracking, oval, autotests...

    Lowering springs from mk2 golf

You'd prolly have to modify the spring seats and cups... not worth it when Micra/alto springs are cheap.

    Synthetic Oil Q's

Ok done some research and dig out my a level chemistry book. Esters are a family of chemicals that are used for lubrication in various industries (e.g. aviation). They differ from straight synthetic hydrocarbons in that they have extra single and double bonded oxygen atoms. They are easy to...

    Back box

If you're in the UK then you have no excuses for your poor Google-fu! If you're in eire I might have to let you off. Try motorsportworld.co.uk, then try dcperformance or potn and you should have covered the four or five common bolt on options.

    Dipstick!

Silly Sunday evening question. My K11 has a yellow dipstick. I've seen others with red ones. I'm sure it's not engine size, and fairly sure it's not model year, so does anyone know which cars got which colour and why?
