    Which trolley jack to buy?

There are a few very bad reviews of sgs online. I'm still looking around for one. I'm not buying one with those geared gizmos for releasing the lowering valve. A few people have said the teeth can break off. I prefer a simple screw that you turn to open and close.

    Which trolley jack to buy?

Well, I was hoping to upload some pictures of my new trolley jack, Kunzer WK 1032, that I ordered from Ama$on but instead they sent out a sofa bed. The delivery man didn't even take it out of the van as it was obviously the wrong thing. I requested a refund via the website. I hope I get my...

MOT advisory - rear axle and suspension arms covered in thick underseal

I can't locate the part online so I will try as you suggested and give it a makeover.

MOT Fun, Can Anyone identify this part?

I prefer to avoid scrap dealers if possible. The ones in my area all have a sign up saying "Welcome to grumpy old b******'s scrap yard". I will ask at my local motor factor.

MOT Fun, Can Anyone identify this part?

Did you manage to replace those upper spring mounts or whatever they are called? I have the same problem on my car.

MOT advisory - rear axle and suspension arms covered in thick underseal

I think I've found the problem. It's the top spring mounts on both sides that need replacing. I'm not sure if they can be replaced as they are part of the suspension, MOT rules say no welds to suspension. If I can't fix them then it looks like it's going to the scrapyard next year. Does...

MOT advisory - rear axle and suspension arms covered in thick underseal

I just can't figure out the meaning of this advisory: -nearside rear (just passes) suspension spring mounting prescribed area is corroded but not considered excessive. Is this referring to the rear axle? If so, I was thinking of removing it and giving it a good clean up and then painting it...

Don't know what this MOT advisory means

Time to get busy with the penetrating oil. Do those large coil springs have to be compressed to remove them or do they just come out after removing the shock absorbers?

    Outer cv joint question

I found my local motor factor to be cheaper than online for cv joints.

Don't know what this MOT advisory means

I hope it's not that. Can the axle be repaired by welding?

Don't know what this MOT advisory means

-nearside rear (just passes) suspension spring mounting prescribed area is corroded but not considered excessive. Not sure what this MOT means. On the micra there is a large spring and also a smaller shock absorber. Any ideas which part the advisory is referring to?

MOT advisory - rear axle and suspension arms covered in thick underseal

The micra passed its MOT today with these advisories: -nearside rear (just passes) suspension spring mounting prescribed area is corroded but not considered excessive. -nearside front macpherson strut corroded but not seriously weakened. -offside front (just passes) macpherson strut corroded...

    Which trolley jack to buy?

I didn't buy a trolly jack but I will bookmark this thread. I managed to drive the car up on some wooden blocks and that gave me enough room to paint the axle and sills. At first, I tried jacking the car up a with scissor jack but then noticed the sill starting to compress under the weight, so...

    Which trolley jack to buy?

It's that time again when I have to prepare the micra for the MOT. I am looking for a good trolley jack that won't break after using it a few times. I bought one from aldi for £10 that went down by itself. My uncle had a halfords one that leaked. It seems that trolley jacks are mostly crap...

Replacing Sump Pan - A Couple of Questions

I had a MOT advisory that said "porous sump" . I jetwashed the sump and checked it after 24 hours. The leak was coming from the drain plug washer. During a previous oil change, some grit got trapped under the washer and it scored the washer when tightened. That created a small channel for...

    Microstar OC218 Oil Filter

Well, I put it on the car and it seems to fit okay. The oil was leaking around the drain plug. I found out why. A small piece of grit got trapped under the copper washer during the last oil change and when I tightened up the plug, the grit cut a nice groove all the way around the washer.

    Microstar OC218 Oil Filter

Well, I can slightly open the box without breaking the seal, so I can compare the thread sizes visually before opening it, if that makes sense.
