I prefer to avoid scrap dealers if possible. The ones in my area all have a sign up saying "Welcome to grumpy old b******'s scrap yard". I will ask at my local motor factor.

Did you manage to replace those upper spring mounts or whatever they are called? I have the same problem on my car.

I think I've found the problem. It's the top spring mounts on both sides that need replacing. I'm not sure if they can be replaced as they are part of the suspension, MOT rules say no welds to suspension. If I can't fix them then it looks like it's going to the scrapyard next year. Does...

Time to get busy with the penetrating oil. Do those large coil springs have to be compressed to remove them or do they just come out after removing the shock absorbers?

I had a MOT advisory that said "porous sump" . I jetwashed the sump and checked it after 24 hours. The leak was coming from the drain plug washer. During a previous oil change, some grit got trapped under the washer and it scored the washer when tightened. That created a small channel for...

Well, I put it on the car and it seems to fit okay. The oil was leaking around the drain plug. I found out why. A small piece of grit got trapped under the copper washer during the last oil change and when I tightened up the plug, the grit cut a nice groove all the way around the washer.

Well, I can slightly open the box without breaking the seal, so I can compare the thread sizes visually before opening it, if that makes sense.
