K12 2005 160sr boot will not unlock.

Hello, found that my boot would not unlock today.

Played around pressing buttons etc, now and again it would open/allow me to lock it. Seems to sometimes work when I put the key in the ignition, but doesn't always work.

How do I diagnose the problem please, ie what are steps and order I need to check?

So no issues at all until today. Now and again it will work. Most of time it doesn't, and when I press the key to unlock it doesn't make the clicking noise. It does, when it works occasionally. Works once every 15 or so attempts. 😅.

Thanks.

If it is just your boot, I would look at the condition of the wires that go from the body to the boot/hatch - they wear out over time due to the opening and closing motion. They are in a rubber sleeve, and wrapped in very sticky tape. It may be that the boot release wire has broken - I had a similar trouble with the rear wash, and wipers, so I ended up replacing *all* the wires, but if it is just the one you can possibly mend the broken wire.

If it's the central locking, that's a different story. Maybe also check/change the battery in your key?

Good luck :)

Most likely this, on mine 3 wires were 'worn cut', inside of rubber elbow.
Worked for awhile randomly, then stopped totally.
German eBay has available repair kit, 4 silicone wires and 8 heat shrink butt connectors.

Thanks for your replys. Sorted. Was the touch switch. Boot would unlock and lock just once, if I locked up car, opened it up and turned ignition on. Would have to go through that process for each unlock, and then again for a locking. Bought the switch and the lock off ebay, as was only £24 for both (new parts). Lock contains a solenoid with electrical connectors, so thought may as well change that at same time. Happy days. Phew. 😅

Some parts are so cheap for micras now, people desperate to sell things off. 12 orange light bulbs for indicators, only £5. Lovely orange indicators now, the mot tester cannot have any complaints about yellow ones now. 😅
