Intermittent starting issue - key turns but sometimes engine fails to crank.

I'm hoping I'm not the first person to experience this issue. My 2005 1.2 Micra Initia has recently started having an issue with starting. It seems that the starter only engages at the furthest extent of the key turning - and sometimes fails to start at all. I can feel the key turn against the spring, but the engine fails to crank. Usually turning it back off and then re-trying to start the car works, but I'm worried it will get to the point where the key will no longer start the car at all.

I'm guessing it needs a replacement starter switch, but I'm wondering how difficult it is to replace.

Has anyone got any information about how to fix it?

Many thanks!
