Have you accidently pushed the extended storage switch? This turns off the OBD port feed and some other setting to save elect. There s photo on this forum if you search for it. Just worth checking.

Just FYI in case someone reads this in the future - - now the car has had plenty of runs and battery is fully charged etc - I no longer seem to get the error code. I suspect/hope it was due to the sitting inactive for some time triggered the error message. It never effected steering or anything...

The normal id of fuel pump failure is if giving it a stern whack underneath the fuel pump gets it going again. They tend to get stuck rather than failing.. and only generally fail if you have been running on low tanks a lot. Also will cause engine to stop running at other times - not just start...

I think you should be posting this on the K11 forum as thats your model I think for 1997. Its likely someone has had similar issues so do search the K11 forum and ask as there are some friendly bods about.

I hope its not a bad distributor as thats quite pricey. Might be worth having a look at some threads on that in case it sounds similar. I have a K12 and a cheap ebay code reader - bluetooth to smartphone and it works fine. So dont know why you having issue reading codes. Good luck!
