Not sure about that. The induction pickup for the gun is designed to register the high current and voltage or the spark. Signal is just the switch dir the transistor or whatever is in the coil

I think I would get a standard timing light hand make a short extension for cylinder 1 spark plug out of an old HT lead.

'coil over plug' is know as coilpack :)

You can get ones which plug between the coilpack and spark plug, not sure how well they would work with wasted spark??

That's gotta be a loose connection making it register full resistance all the time surely? Check the plug terminals
